Help save your harbour

Huge construction machinery has appeared at the base of Bledisloe Wharf – despite thousands and thousands of Aucklanders being opposed to any wharf expansions. And while the consent process was hidden from public scrutiny, nothing can hide the huge machines ready to start spewing concrete into the sparkling Waitemata. Help us stop their unbridled determination to take over the harbour.

Click the below link and an email will open up addressed to Len Brown & Penny Hulse. The more independent voices they hear in outage to the proposed extension of the wharf the higher the chances the Council will, as Penny Hulse put it "go nuclear" on The Ports of Auckland and stop this extension.

Together our voice will continue to grow, share this cause on all your social networks. If you can convince your peers to join in, we can change the future of Auckland’s waterfront.

The Mission

Ports of Auckland is about to start extending Bledisloe Wharf by nearly 100m into the Waitemata Harbour. Work starts in April 2015.

Aucklanders have recently paid $40 million to Ports of Auckland to create te harbour gateway to our city on Queens Wharf.

The Bledisloe Wharf extensions will completely block the view from Queen’s Wharf to the outer harbour, one of the most significant views on our waterfront. The extensions will also unnecessarily narrow an increasingly congested harbour.

The Waitemata Harbour is Auckland’s greatest asset, one we hold in trust for future generations.

Through the actions of the Ports of Auckland and Auckland Council it is now under further threat.

Resource consents for the extension were issued in late December 2014 without any consultation, notification or knowledge of the wider Auckland commnunity and other stakeholders. This despite high levels of public interest and while the contentious issue of Port expansion is being addressed in the Unitary Plan hearings.

Without wider consultation with stakeholders and the public, and before a broader long-term study, Auckland Council is enabling Ports of Auckland to increase its land footprint, effectively narowing the Waitemata Harbour and blocking views at the expense of all Aucklanders.

The Bledisloe Wharf extensions must be stopped immediately.

Auckland, the Waitemata Harbour needs your help. If Aucklanders shout loud enough, the Mayor, Councillors and Ports of Auckland will have to listen. Join the campaign on facebook.com/stopstealingourharbour and keep following this website for further developments.
